Stacking Light

Over several difficult weeks, I slowly crafted this ceramic lamp. I began it just before my father-in-law became ill, and it emerged from the kiln three days before his funeral.
The lamp consists of five individually shaped ceramic pieces that can be stacked interchangeably, allowing different amounts of light spreading in the room.
With only small pockets of time to work on it, the pauses between sessions allowed the design to evolve naturally into something quite different from what I first imagined.
Working on it became a quiet creative outlet between hospital visits and everyday life.
Sara Remnerth (SR.Ceramics) is a ceramic artist based in Auckland, New Zealand. Her work is shaped by an appreciation for Scandinavian mid-century design, influencing form and proportion. Working intuitively with earthy stoneware, her practice balances structure and clean lines with playfulness, inviting touch and closer looking.
