Amber Jones

Amber Jones is an artist whose work navigates the raw energy of the sea and the quiet intimacy of life beneath the surface. As a photographer her practice is rooted in a deep sensibility and reverence for the intuitive rhythm of the underwater world.

From her early days shooting surfers in Kona, Hawaii, her practice is a layering of physical discipline and visual advocacy, an animist offering to the marine life of Aotearoa. She calls the underwater landscape of the Alderman Islands her second home.

Acting as a visual advocate, she channels the silent narratives of animals without a voice. Whilst maintaining a commitment to conservation, Amber draws on a powerful palette of marbling light and swirling currents to create her highly immersive yet deeply personal visual language. Whether documenting the ocean-to-plate ideology or capturing the side of a predator most never see, she celebrates the rawness and the intricacy of the human experience as a guest within the wild.

"My work is an embodiment of the quiet alive, the magic found in the juxtaposition of sitting motionless on the ocean floor while every sense fires in response to the clicks and textures of the seabed."
