Milli Villamil
Mili Villamil is an Argentinian-born photographer and long-time resident of Waiheke Island, whose work is a vibrant celebration of New Zealand’s raw, untamed beauty. Since arriving in 2012, her lens has pivoted from the dramatic expanses of the southern lights to intimate portraits of women submerged in the natural world, capturing a sense of primordial connection and "raw essence."
Her practice is defined by a dual rhythm: the meditative silence of the landscape and the electric energy of human connection. Whether she is stargazing under dark skies or documenting the kinetic pulse of a music festival dance floor, Mili seeks the authentic, the unscripted laugh, the candid emotion, and the fleeting moments that resonate long after the shutter clicks. Her photography is not merely a visual record but a narrative tool, a way to translate the perfection of nature and the vitality of the human spirit into a tangible story of belonging and joy.
"Taking photographs in nature is my way of meditation and introspection; it is a process of contemplating the uniqueness and perfection of the world in silence. I am fascinated by how a single image can tell a story, chasing those authentic, raw emotions that allow you to feel something every time you look back. It is about capturing life in its most candid, vibrant form."
